Off without a hitch!

My Dad turns 50 tomorrow! So as a surprise we threw him a party.... this has been my reason for not posting at all last week. The party was Friday night and was a semi-surprise. As the people were arriving we kind of forgot to direct the cars down the street... or at least ran out of man power to appoint someone else to do it. So the real surprise was when he pulled into the drive way and there were cars everywhere :)

Here is my little project I put together for the party.

I made a 'clothes line' of 50 years of pictures. It turned out great and was a big hit, especially for those who knew my dad back then.
Using 3 bamboo poles, twine and a bunch of clothes pin anyone could easily set something like this up. I stuck my poles into the ground and into potted plants - you'll just need something to anchor them. I tied them off to ground stakes to anchor them and keep them from falling forward.
I also set up a few good ones from those younger years by the cake.
All in all it was a great party. Happy 50th Dad!

Happy Birthday!

So this week has been insanely busy! So much so I haven't posted at all this week. Shame on me! But today I finally got to meet Adilyn! Some of our best friends, Jay and Kristen, brought the sweetest and cutest little girl into the world today. She was born just after 2pm and we visted around 5. She wasn't fussy at all. She was passed around to everyone and never minded a bit. And she actually was the first newborn baby I've ever held!! Her birth has been long awaited but I can't believe she is already here!

Welcome Miss Adilyn Sarah!

Now I've got to start making some of the cute baby stuff I've been finding on all these amazing blogs I've been coming across.

Something Old, Something New...

We received some wonderful wedding gifts during our engagement and wedding but some of my favorite gifts are my China and Crystal. I LOVE all of it! My problem though, was that I had no way to display it all. I wanted a China Cabinet but nothing I found really fit me. So I was on a mission. Mom had already promised me a china cabinet for Christmas so when I saw this old cabinet for sale on the side of the road, I just knew it would be my diamond in the rough. I say rough because it looked just that... rough! I don't know why I didn't get a before picture. It was darkly varnished, drab and just sad but I saw the potential! Using all the elbow grease I could muster up I sanded the bad boy down. Spray painted it white then painted the inside of the cabinet with a blue that reminds me of the ocean. Ahhh... now, thats me!

I still haven't put the door on yet. The door is the cabinet's most unique part... It's made with curved glass. Here is one more picture with everything in it
I have some projects going on this week that I should get posted next week.
Have a great week!

Shedding New Light

This horribly unattractive thing is what was in our dinning room when we first moved in... Luckily it didn't stay long. We received a beautiful Tiffany style chandelier as a wedding gift so we were happy to put it up... quickly. I decided to keep it for what ever reason and it's been up in my attic for almost 2 years. I came across a Better Homes and Garden magazine and found an article about 'rescued treasures' and thats when I pulled this old ugly chandelier out of the attic and decided it needed to be 'rescued.'

So I got to work.... and here is my project progress:

I removed all the candle sticks and bulbs and taped up the sockets.
Covered with 2 coats of primer.

Added 2 coats of pretty peachy spray paint.

Wrapped the candlesticks with pretty craft paper that matched the color scheme of my living room and added some floral beaded embellishments.

Found this clear beaded christmas garland at Hobby Lobby. I attached it to the chandelier with floral wire.
And Voila!

Who would have thought this treasure was just hanging out in my attic for the last 2 years?! I love it! and it was soooo easy!
So don't throw away those old ugly unwanted pieces.... rescue them!

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

I wish I found these 2 weeks ago!
They are wrap around mailing labels with a return address area. A Very Chocolate Wedding has an easy to do printable templet here. These would have been so cute on those party invites I sent out a few weeks ago. I'll definitely use them for the next time.

Remember those car troubles I mentioned yesterday?... well they are back today. So I had to take the rest of the day off to help the hubs get his car fixed. Just wanted to take a 'me' second before I jump back on the road.

Hope everyone else has a Terrific Thursday!

OK, so I lied :)

Well not really but I did mention in my last post that there wasn't any time for crafts tonight. Since my poor hubby had car trouble (poor thing) he was a little delayed in getting home... so I used my time wisely and took to blogging :) And I found the cutest little craft that I knew I already had the stuff for so I thought, "what the heck." Check the 'How To' out here
And here are my results...
Pretty Paper flowers!

The Tutorial called for tissue paper and I immediately thought of gift wrapping tissue paper... and thats the Blue flower - not so 'tiny.' Then I remembered I had origami paper left over from an Asian themed baby shower so I made the pink and purples ones out of that. And I will be making more! But the hubs is here so i'm off to dinner. Night!

Decoupage: success!

I was able to squeeze in some project time last night in the middle of cooking, cleaning and the other wifey things. So I just did 2 quick 'trial' projects. I got the idea to cover the switch plates for several other blogs I've visited so I can't take the 'creative' credit there but here is the switch plate I covered for our bedroom.

I'm happy with it! Its just scrap book paper mod podged on the plate. It matches our room and it will match another project I'll be working on soon. It's still a secret but I'm sooo excited about it! While at Hobby Lobby I came across an unfinished wooden trash can. It was only $5 and even in its unfinished state is way cuter then the current walmart-bag-hanging-from-the-desk-knob trash can that is in our office. So I grabbed it! Also used scrapbook paper on this project as well and some left over spray paint. I was a little rushed doing this one - trying to get done before my oven timer went off for my chicken pot pie. So I made some mistakes BUT they are good mistakes to learn from.... wait for the base coat of mod podge to dry before putting on a second, otherwise it bubbles. I just put the side towards the wall :) Problem solved and it still didn't turn out to bad.

Dinner with the in-laws tonight so no crafting, experimenting or project time tonight.
Happy Hump Day!

The juices are flowing!

I have just recently discovered blogs... not just writing one but reading them as well. I never knew how much information was out there and especially about things I love to do! I consider myself a little crafty and the satisfaction of creating something and being able to say, "I made that" is amazing. So I've always known I've had it in me but just need a push... some good inspiration. Man have I found it! There are hundreds of blogs filled with stuff that makes me so excited and eager to get home and try these projects out. This one in particular, I just can't get enough of. After browsing the pages I got so motivated that I made a trip to hobby lobby! Spent less then $25 and got some supplies to do a few projects. I've never decoupaged before so I'm excited to try it.
Wish me luck! Hopefully I'll have some good things to post tomorrow because I'm starting right now.

"it's a feeling, a heartbeat"

RIP Patrick Swayze!
When I think of him or hear his name this is one of the images I remember:

I can't listen to 'Love is Strange' without wanting to crawl on the floor and play the air guitar.
I only wish there were summer camps like the Kellerman's when I was younger with people like Johnny Castle. Dirty Dancing is one of maybe 5 movies that no matter when, if I see this movie on the TV guide i'm watching it! It's a movie I can never watch to many times and it only gets better the more I watch it. Of course there are others but DD is at the top.
Thank you Patrick Swayze. Thanks for showing us how to dance. If only I could have gotten private lessons maybe I'd be a little better. Rest in peace.

The First!

I'm new to this blogging thing. I'm a work in progress so bear with me.
I've been married just over a year and I have 2 girls. My girls are the hairy four legged kind but they are our children. People share photos of their sons and daughters and I show pictures of 'My Girls' :) here is one now:

This is from Easter. They are showing off the treats and toys the easter bunny brought them - see I told you they were my children! Sophie is a Malti-poo and Harley is a Dudley Yellow Lab. I couldn't imagine life without them as this point. And of course there is my H-man, my Hubs, and I wouldn't be where I am without him.

We've lived in our home almost 2 years now and I feel like I'm finally starting to get everything the way I like it. My home actually fits me now. It's rewarding when you can turn a house into a home. One of my plans for this blog is to share my ideas and my projects. I've been running into a lot of both of these recently. Some I have recently completed so those will go up soon, but of course I already have others in the works. So I will keep everyone updated here. Hope to have you back soon!
